Mahindra entered the electric vehicle arena in India with its highly anticipated Mahindra XUV400 Electric. Recognizing the growing demand for advanced electric SUVs, Mahindra aims to offer a compelling alternative to the existing Tata Nexon EV.

With the Tata Nexon EV already making waves, Mahindra understands the need to deliver a superior electric SUV to Indian consumers. The question arises: Can the Mahindra XUV400 Electric hold its ground against the popular Tata Nexon EV? Let’s explore our first drive impression of this exciting newcomer.

Mahindra has recently launched a range of impressive cars in the Indian market, solidifying their position as a prominent player. With their remarkable product lineup, there is little room for doubt about the impact they create in the market. Car enthusiasts who appreciate Mahindra’s innovations will be captivated by the stunning design of the XUV400.

The Mahindra XUV400 sets itself apart from the XUV300 with its distinct cosmetic enhancements. Notably, the front of 2023 XUV400 showcases a redesigned grille, adding to its overall aesthetic appeal. While the headlights retain the familiar design, the XUV400’s overall look and feel are sure to make a statement on the road.

We don’t have any hate for the designs by Mahindra as the brand has not yet compromised on the looks of any of its products. Some manufacturers forget about the looks of the car but here we loved the Mahindra XUV400 for its stellar design. There is one thing that the brand did well and that’s offering a request sensor on the driver’s door. The Alloy wheels on the SUV don’t have any difference and they are similar to the ICE counterpart of the car.

It would not be tough to differentiate between the XUV300 and the XUV400 as even a non-car guy can also tell the difference between the taillamps of the car. Mahindra does offer taillamps in a different design that does look very much appealing.

One area where we recommend improvements for the Mahindra XUV400 is its interior design. The 7-inch touchscreen provided inside the car falls short in comparison to offerings by its rivals, which feature larger screens. However, it’s worth noting that the instrument cluster in the XUV400 is well-designed and displays all the essential information one needs from the vehicle.

While the XUV300 offered cruise control as an option, it seems to be missing from the XUV400. We suggest considering the inclusion of this feature to enhance the driving experience further.

Despite the smaller size, the touchscreen in the XUV400 is surprisingly responsive and user-friendly. It compensates for its compact size with its ease of use.

Notably, the air conditioning system in the XUV400 performs exceptionally well, even in the scorching summer heat. It provides powerful cooling, ensuring a comfortable ride for occupants.

In India, every middle-class family demands an SUV that feels spacious from the inside and offers decent headroom along with better legroom. That’s something a person with an average height can feel after sitting on the rear seats. We felt very much comfortable when we sat at the rear and got a great experience in terms of space.

Now, the most exciting part of every car after taking it for a spin around the cities. It was unfortunate that we couldn’t rev the electric motor but overspeeding should be avoided in the cities. Our Team will always encourage you to always take care of the speed limits. We appreciate the smoothness of the XUV400 electric car as there is zero noise inside the cabin. Now, that’s obvious that an electric car will never give any compromise in terms of refinement. It was still fun driving the car because those who will drive the car will feel the constant torque during the acceleration.

The Mahindra XUV400 offers a driving experience akin to an electric car, delivering exceptional comfort and enjoyment, particularly in city environments. The car’s Fun mode provides a comfortable and enjoyable driving experience, allowing you to stay within your comfort zone. However, for those who crave power and exhilaration, the Fast mode unleashes the beast within. Engaging the Fast mode instantly enhances the thrill of acceleration, creating an epic driving experience.

Mahindra XUV400 Electric Ride and Handling

If anyone drives a beast like Mahindra XUV400 then obviously the car will have better ride and handling on offer. We drove the car in both the fun mode and the fast mode and no doubt steering feels responsive in the fast mode. Those who mostly drive in cities can use the fun mode for lighter steering and electric motor response. Just brake hard and then there would be immediate feedback generated from the brakes. Anyone who needs a balanced suspension can get the XUV400 as there is no jittering at the higher speeds. The XUV400 has the ability that it can absorb potholes very well for comfortable driving.

Safety of the XUV400

We greatly admire Mahindra for its outstanding safety performance, as evidenced by its impressive Global NCAP ratings. Mahindra cars have excelled in safety tests, achieving a remarkable 5-star rating for adult occupant safety and a 4-star rating for child occupant safety. With essential features like Dual Airbags and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) offered as standard, Mahindra ensures enhanced safety and peace of mind for drivers and passengers.

We sincerely hope that our post has assisted you in making a well-informed decision when considering a new car purchase. We invite you to share your opinions and experiences in the comment section, whether you already own a Mahindra car or are planning to buy one.
