Maruti Suzuki unveiled the New Celerio Facelift in India at the Auto Expo 2014. The model was previewed at the Thailand International Motor Expo in 2013. Celerio was launched with six variants. It didn’t have a diesel version in the beginning. The diesel version was introduced in 2015. The car was launched in the European Market in the second half of 2014.
The car was produced in Thailand at Suzuki’s Rayong manufacturing plant. The Celerio replaced Suzuki’s Alto and Maruti Zen Estilo. It competed against Tata Indica, Hyundai i10, Nissan Micra, Ford Figo, Chevrolet Beat and Honda Brio.

The Suzuki Celerio scored three stars in Euro NCAP in 2014 and four stars in ANCAP. But there was huge criticism against this rating as Celerio had fewer airbags and performed badly in the crash test compared to other cars. The Celerio was awarded zero stars by the global NCAP after testing the Indian Version in May 2016. The basic model of the Indian version of the Celerio does not have airbags and is rated unstable by the Global NCAP.
The Celerio diesel model was launched on third June 2015. The 793cc diesel engine model was priced at 4.65 lakhs. It is powered by the car maker’s first indigenously developed two-cylinder motor. It delivers 47. 6 BHP power and 125 Nm of peak torque. The diesel version of Celerio delivers a maximum mileage of 27.62 kmpl. Both the diesel and petrol versions had similar external designs. The diesel variant of the car was discontinued in 2017.
