Maruti To Launch its New Celerio Facelift in Early 2021

Maruti Suzuki unveiled the New Celerio Facelift in India at the Auto Expo 2014. The model was previewed at the Thailand International Motor Expo in 2013. Celerio was launched with six variants. It didn’t have a diesel version in the beginning. The diesel version was introduced in 2015. The car was launched in the European Market in the second half of 2014.

The car was produced in Thailand at Suzuki’s Rayong manufacturing plant. The Celerio replaced Suzuki’s Alto and Maruti Zen Estilo. It competed against Tata Indica,  Hyundai i10, Nissan Micra, Ford Figo, Chevrolet Beat and Honda Brio.

The Suzuki Celerio scored three stars in Euro NCAP in 2014 and four stars in ANCAP. But there was huge criticism against this rating as Celerio had fewer airbags and performed badly in the crash test compared to other cars. The Celerio was awarded zero stars by the global NCAP after testing the Indian Version in May 2016. The basic model of the Indian version of the Celerio does not have airbags and is rated unstable by the Global NCAP.

The Celerio diesel model was launched on third June 2015. The 793cc diesel engine model was priced at 4.65 lakhs. It is powered by the car maker’s first indigenously developed two-cylinder motor. It delivers 47. 6 BHP power and 125 Nm of peak torque. The diesel version of Celerio delivers a maximum mileage of 27.62 kmpl. Both the diesel and petrol versions had similar external designs. The diesel variant of the car was discontinued in 2017.

The 2017 New Celerio Facelift Maruti Suzuki

Suzuki’s updated Celerio in 2017 at a starting price of 4.15 lakh. The top-spec ZXi with the automated manual transmission was priced at Rs. 5.34 lakh. It came with modified front and rear bumpers, chrome garnished new grille and new fog lamps. The profile of the updated Celerio is similar to the previous one. The alloy wheels were also the same.

In the interior, the dashboard gets a dual-tone black and a mix of beige and grey finish. The seats are covered in greige colour. However, the 2017 Celerio facelift didn’t have a touch screen infotainment system. Regarding the storage, there are 6 cup holders which have pretty good space. The boot space of the car is 2035 litres which are great in this segment. The interior built quality is decent for the price. 

All the 12 variants have driver’s side airbag and seat belt warning features as safety equipment. Anti Braking System and front passenger airbag options are available in some variants. You cannot drop too many gears in a single attempt as part of a safety mechanism. You can feel a significant amount of vibrations, but it can be smoothened by pressing the throttle. The fuel efficiency of the 2017 Celerio facelift is 23.1 kmpl. 

The facelifted scenario has the same 1.0 litre, three-cylinder petrol engine. The engine develops 68 HP power and 19 Nm of peak torque. All the variants have a five-speed manual and the higher-spec Vxi and ZXi give the option of a five-speed AMT gearbox. The pretty decent feature list of the car, excellent sales and service network and a selling point for the young generation has helped Celerio succeed over its rivals.

New Celerio Facelift 2021

A camouflaged test mule of the Celerio of the new Celerio was spotted on the road in September 2020. The Suzuki Celerio first launched in 2014 and updated the hatchback in 2017 lacked behind its rivals in terms of features and safety. After a long six years in the market, Suzuki is planning to launch the Celerio facelift in 2021. The upcoming Celerio 2020 was expected to be launched during 2020 Diwali. However, it might be postponed to 2021. The new Celerio 2021 launch date in India is yet to be officially confirmed by the carmaker.

The upcoming Celerio 2021 is expected to be an improved version of the current general model, in terms of interior space, comfort and features. The Celerio facelift 2021 is built on the Heartect platform used in Wagon-R, Swift and Ignis. The upcoming Celerio 2021 should focus on improving the interior space largely. 

The new Celerio 2021 price begins at 4.5 lakh and is supposed to resemble its current-generation model. The bonnet is flattered and the front bumper looks redesigned in the spy images of the upcoming Celerio 2020.  The headlamps and taillamps are expected to be updated in the new model. A new set of alloy wheels looks much prettier in the new Celerio facelift 2021.

The upcoming Celerio 2020 is expected to carry the same engine model as its current model. It will be powered with a 1.0 litre, naturally aspirated inline-3 engine that delivers a peak power of 67 hp and 90 Nm torque. It is paired with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission. We can also expect a CNG variant, which only has a manual gearbox. The  Celerio new model 2021 price is expected to be between Rs 4.5 lakh- Rs 6 lakh. The upcoming Celerio 2020 will compete against Tata Tiago, Maruti Wagon-R and Hyundai Santro. 

5 Things That Will Make The Upcoming New Celerio Facelift 2021 a Significant Car:

1. Platform

The new Celerio facelift  2021 internally code-named YNC is expected to be built on the 5 th generation of Maruti’s lightweight Heartect platform. It is the same as the one used in S-Presso.

2. Powertrain

As mentioned above, the car will be powered by a 1.0-litre three-cylinder K10B naturally aspirated petrol engine. The new Celerio might be offered with Maruti’s 1.2 litres naturally aspirated petrol engine that can produce a power of 83 PS and 113 Nm of peak torque. The carmaker might also introduce a petrol CNG that might come with optional automatic gear.

3. Design

The upcoming Celerio 2020  will be bigger than its current model in terms of size. It will be more spacious. It might have a completely fresh design as the older design looks outdated.

4. Features of New Celerio Facelift

The present Celerio does not have many features, which makes the car a little outdated compared to its rivals. The newly updated feature list includes an integrated Bluetooth entertainment system, steering mounted audio controls, electrically adjustable wind mirrors, manual AC, etc. 

The upcoming Celerio 2021 will be higher on features and safety tech. The features include a 7-inch touch screen infotainment system integrated with Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivity, ABS with EBD, reverse parking senses, front seat belt reminders and a lot more. 

5. Launch And Price

The current Maruti Suzuki Celerio price is between Rs 4.41-Rs 5.68 lakh. However with the new features and powertrains. The price is likely to go up. The new Celerio 2021 launch date in India is yet to be announced. The Celerio new model 2021 price could be starting from Rs 4.6 lakh and might go up to 6 lakh (Ex-showroom). The new Celerio 2021 launch date in India will be in early 2021.

The upcoming Celerio 2021 will rival the likes of Hyundai Santro, Datsun Go and Tata Tiago. Maruti is also expected to make the Celerio X version of the new model in the near future.
