The Jeep Compass in India made a captivating debut when it was introduced in the market. Many people loved the Jeep because of the cheapest Jeep car and its off-roading capability. Currently, the dealerships are accepting bookings for diesel variants only.

Jeep Compass had recorded sales of 558 units making it one of the least-selling cars in India. There are new products that Jeep must introduce in the Indian market. It would be difficult for them to sustain themselves in India as they have no fixed plans for any launches. The engine Jeep Compass uses is a Fiat Sourced 2-litre diesel engine that pumps out 170 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque. Jeep India offers diesel variants with both a 6-speed Manual and 9-speed automatic transmission.

Earlier, there were petrol variants available with the Jeep Compass which featured both 6-speed manual and 7-speed automatic options. This 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine on the Compass generated 160 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque. There was only one variant on the Compass petrol that came with a manual transmission and that’s the base variant. All the other petrol variants were available with an automatic transmission only.

Will Jeep ever bring back the petrol engine?

Those who care more about off-roading would love the diesel engine that had brutal acceleration on offer. An advantage of buying a diesel Compass was off-roading as a premium SUV buyer would prefer a diesel engine. There are chances that maybe diesel engines may or may not make a comeback in India. Currently,  no official confirmation is there on whether the dealers will reopen the bookings or Jeep will only sell diesel variants of the Compass.

Should Jeep reintroduce the petrol engine in the Indian market or you are happy with the diesel engine only? Feel free to comment your opinion in the comments section and also give your opinion on which new product Jeep should introduce in India.
