The current Toyota Fortuner model has been in the market since 2015. Toyota decided to go for a 2021 facelift to compete with the other updated high- tech upcoming models. The all-new Toyota Fortuner was launched in Thailand on 4th June 2020. The Toyota Fortuner facelift India launch is scheduled in January 2021.

Fortuner and Fortuner Legender

The Toyota Fortuner Facelift 2021 has been introduced in two primary variants- Standard and Legender. The exterior of the Legender is more upscale. It features enhanced lighting and a sporty design. Apart from this, the Legender features LED dual projector headlamps, front and rear LED-based turn indicators, 20 inches alloy wheels and a kick-activated tailgate. The Toyota Fortuner facelift interior of the two variants don’t have major differences except for the 11 JBL based speakers, subwoofer and 9 inches infotainment system.

Safety features like automatic pre-collision braking, lane departure alert, and radar-based cruise control are exclusively available for the Legender. The Fortune Legender has some more additional features like a 4.2-inch MID in the ‘Optitron’ instrument console, Toyota TConnect connectivity suite, paddle shifters, climate control, one-touch folding middle-row seats, eight-way power seats, electrochromic IRVM, traction control, cruise control, seven airbags, hill-start assist, trailer sway control, electronic stability control and all-wheel discs are common in both models.

New Toyota Fortuner vs Old Toyota Fortuner 

The dimensions of the Toyota Fortuner remains the same except for a 5 mm increase in wheelbase. The car design has been slightly modified and has new LED headlamps and upgraded LED tail lamps. The front fascia and the small grille of the Fortune Legender have been inspired by the Lexus. The layout inside the cabin has not changed much except for larger infotainment systems.

Front Profile 

The facelift demonstrates new headlamps, a new LED DRL pattern, redesigned bumper and a redesigned front grille. The chrome pattern around the fog lamps have been eliminated. The Toyota logo is the only unchanged element of the front profile.

In the case of the Legender version, you will see a more sporty design. The Legender will encompass dual-beam LED projector headlamps, a different LED DRL pattern and a more sleek headlamp pattern. The grilles are divided into two parts where the upper grill is smaller while the lower air dams are larger.

Side Profile 

 The side profile of the old and new Fortuner is very similar except for a change in the pattern of the 18 inches alloy wheels. 

On the other hand, the Legender shows a larger and a different alloy wheels pattern. The Legender alloy wheels will have a diameter of around 20 inches.

Rear Profile

The rear profile of the Standard Fortuner has a different tail lamp design. The chrome-plated in the tailgate of the Legender version is black. A redesigned bumper is seen in the Legender which makes it look more sporty.

High-Tech Interiors

The interiors of the Toyota Fortuner is upgraded to accommodate the latest high-tech automobile technology. There is a redesigned infotainment system that is around 8 inches. The infotainment system comes with an inbuilt Apple CarPlay. The Fortuner is enhanced with some premium features like wireless smartphone charging, ambient lighting and a 360-degree camera view. On the other hand, the interiors of the Legender model encompass a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. There are white trim panels, 7 airbags, a collision prevention system, lane departure warning and radar-guided dynamic cruise control for the Legender model. There is also an eight-way driver and co-driver adjustment feature integrated into the latest model.

Toyota Fortuner Bags 5-star Safety Rating in ASEAN NCAP Crash Test

The Toyota Fortuner facelift has bagged 34 points out of 36 for occupant safety. In the case of child protection, the car bags 43 out of 49 points. Also, the safety assist technology rating for the car is 13 out of 18 points. The car’s safety assistance technology includes Toyota Safety Sense. The Toyota Safety Sense includes a collision prevention system, lane departure warning and radar-guided dynamic cruise control. Apart from the Toyota Safety Sense, some new features like front and rear parking sensors, trailer sways control to maintain steering, collapsible steering,7 airbags,  Seat Belt reminders, blindspot technology, Automatic emergency braking and forward-collision warning can be seen.

Currently, the Indian Fortuner is powered by a 4 cylinder and 2.8-litre diesel engine. The diesel engine has a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The engine produces 177 PS of power at 3400 rpm. The peak torque is 450 Nm at 1600-2400 rpm. The updated SUV will have a 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine. It will produce 104 PS of power and around 500 Nm torque. Hence, the latest design will be  26.6 PS more power and produce an extra 50 Nm torque. The 2.7 litres petrol engine will not have any remodelling. It will produce the same 166 PS and 245Nm.

Expected Prices in India

The exact prices of the Toyota Fortuner facelift 2021 price in India can be determined only after its launch. The Toyota Fortuner 2021 launch date in India is scheduled in January 2021.  In Thailand, the facelifted Fortuner cost fifty thousand to two lakhs more than the pre-facelift Fortuner. Currently, the car costs 31.54 lakhs to 44.45 lakhs in the Thailand market. The Indian Fortuner costs around 28.66 lakhs for the base variant and 34.43 lakhs for the highest variant. The existing Toyota Fortuner costs ₹28.66 lakh onward for the petrol model while Fortuner diesel starts from ₹30.67 lakh. Recently, the Fortuner has seen a surge of around 48 thousand in India. The Indian pricing will depend on the number of features and comfort, safety enhancements provided. Based on the Thailand market value analysis, the car will be available in the Indian market for an extra 1.5 lakhs.
