Today we are going to share our first drive experience with you. We have driven Toyota Glanza for 500 Kms and shared a review about the car.
The Facelifted Toyota Glanza was launched in March 2022, with a fresh face and 1st in segment features. The Previous version of Toyota Glanza was similar to Maruti Suzuki Baleno only the logo was different. Now you can spot few differences in the front profile of these cars.
Toyota Glanza has a starting price of Rs. 6.66 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the base variant and gets 3 variants on offer and a CNG option as well. It mainly competes with Hyundai I20, Tata Altroz, Maruti Baleno and Honda Jazz. It has 5 color options available but no dual tone on offer.

RADICAL DESIGN

The design of the All new Glanza is totally different from its previous avatar. With an all new front face, it has become much more fresh in design. The combination of new headlamps with LED DRLs and halogen indicator gives headlights a fresh look. There is a camera placement under the Toyota logo for 360 degree cameras. The chrome surround around the fog lamps and black treatment at the bottom of the bumper makes the front of the car very attractive.

The side is exactly the same as the Baleno but the design of the alloys is quite different. It gets front disc and rear drums and 195/55/R16 alloy wheels. There is a camera present under the ORVMs for 360 degree view and a puddle lamp under the doors for the illumination at night on the road. The request sensors are present on both sides unlike its Korean rival which only has it on the driver side.

At the rear, it is exactly the same as that of the Baleno. Same design of tail lamps, reflectors and everything. There is a chrome line which still continues to have a space for the 360 degree camera like the previous generation. The loading lib is on the higher side so operating the boot and stuffing the luggage inside it can be a difficult task. It has a good amount of boot space and with a 60:40 split seat it can be increased further to stuff more luggage inside the vehicle.
PREMIUM INTERIORS

When we step inside the vehicle, let us discuss the rear seat space of the vehicle. The in-rest and the eg-rest can be a challenging task for the older passengers due to low ground clearance. The rear seats are pretty comfortable. It has good legroom, knee-room. The under-thigh support is good but scope of improvement is always possible. The shoulder room and the headroom is also on the better side. There is a center hump only a little bit so the 3rd passenger might not be as comfortable as it could have been and the lack of the center headrest could have been a better place for the center passenger.
There has been use of the fabric upholstery in the cabin but leather seats could have been a better fit to use and would increase the comfort as well. The care of the rear passengers is taken by the rear AC vents and the Rear charging sockets to ease their comfort to a greater extent.Â
The front seats of the Glanza are pretty well equipped with comfort. The driver gets the height adjusted but it is all manual control. The center dashboard is totally similar to what we see in the sibling Baleno. It gets an all new 9 inch touch screen with wired Android Auto and Apple car play. It has got multiple themes which can be set according to the mood of the user.

SPORTY PERFORMANCE
Toyota Glanza comes with a 1.2 L Naturally Aspirated 4 cylinder petrol engine. This is the same engine which we see in other Maruti Suzuki cars, the K12B engine. It produces 90 BHP of power and 115 Nm torque and is mated to either a 5 speed manual transmission or a 5 speed AMT transmission. Now it has replaced the old CVT transmission and adopted the AMT technology. The clutch pedal is on the lighter side but the bite is very initial so once you get used to it will help you in bumper to bumper situations. The gear shifts are also smooth enough and the lever style is exactly the same as that we see on other siblings.Â

RIDE & HANDLING
The ride and handling of the Glanza is on the smooth side. The suspension is on the softer side and this makes the car bouncy on high speeds and on expansion joints. The body roll is very well contained but if you try doing hard cornering then the body roll kicks in and spoils the whole mood and there is a certain amount of understeer happening.
STEERING & BRAKING
The brakes of the Glanza are very surefooted. It gets ABS, EBD and ESP ( traction control ) which helps to maintain the grip on the road and on the slippery tarmac. The steering is an electronic unit, which is very light weight In the starting but it doesn’t add any weight even at high speeds. In city conditions it is very good to use as its competitors still use hydraulic units.

MILEAGE
The mileage from the 1.2 L engine of the Glanza is around 17-19 km/L in the city conditions and on highways you can stretch that upto 22-23 km/L as well. It is a fuel efficient car and since driving it for more than 500 kms non stop, we could find that it has a real time mileage of about 18 km/L and on highways it returned a mileage of about 20 km/L. Mileage is a factor which totally depends on the driving style of the driver, if he has a heavy foot then expectation of mileage should be less and if the foot is light then mileage expectations can be more.
SAY YES OR NO TO TOYOTA GLANZA ?
While considering a premium hatchback in India, there are 5 options available for the customer. Among one of them is the TOYOTA GLANZA. The Toyota badge itself reminds you of the reliability and service which it offers and the Glanza is the entry level product in the Toyota line-up. This Glanza must be considered in this segment as it is a strong rival among its competitors and the overall fit finish quality and the service network and the after sales is never a complaint.
